Vendor Spotlight – Barbara

How did you get started at Vintage Marketplace?

Barbara has been a sewist since her middle school days making most of her clothing in high school and college. Her final garment was her embroidered wedding gown. She attended post graduate school in San Francisco where she fell in love with fiber arts at the De Young Art Museum exhibitions. She also had the privilege to have an artist mentor, Connie Smith Siegel, for her two years, igniting her passion for abstract painting and Georgia O’Keefe.

Do you have an area of specialty?

Barbara has created several commissioned art quilt pieces, sold a number of pieces, and has been accepted into three regional and two national art quilt exhibitions. She has sold some of her small pieces in local craft markets. The idea of beginning sales at the Vintage Marketplace began innocently with seeing some ads on Instagram and remembering another vendor who talked about what a wonderful place to show her work. The idea percolated for quite some time before inspiration to begin sales formed.

What is your favorite part of reselling?

I am living my best life right now. My work of service to others has been transformed into finding my flow in use of color, design, and being fully in the process of making. Use of wonderful, colorful fabrics, of discarded vintage pieces to find how to celebrate and regenerate, bits of beads and buttons, and lovely threads all find a place in my creations. I am thrilled to offer my vintage works at the Vintage Marketplace.
